Tooth & Claw 04:34
Tiffany Green Wrapped inside her rhymin' diamonds Queen of the climbin' bustlin' rustlers Always clean from the full court presster jesters In my dreams Stuck to the wall Between old Uncle Moses and Grandma Saw the evil genius In us all We're stuck inside a puzzle-less jigsaw And all of that and all of that All of that screams All of that and all of that All of that's me Cacophony In my earless whisper There are three Statutes I must follow 'til I sleep And arrange another short Eternity And all of that and all of that All of that screams All of that and all of that All of that's me [solo] Let's play it all When we couldn't win and had to crawl Up from crimson chaos into law We're all humbug red in tooth and claw And all of that and all of that All of that screams All of that and all of that All of that's me And all of that and all of that All of that screams All of that and all of that All of that's me

Understand 03:06
Gazing out my window Looking out at the lights No one needs my stories or my lonely nights If I could find my way back I wouldn't be here long I found my way to get home How can that be wrong? Sit there and watch the world go by You don't need this life Whatcha waitin' for? Whatcha lookin' at? Whatcha doin' here? Why you make a face like that? While you're sitting here eras are ending Investigations are pending, now You don't understand Been broken hearted most of my life I open to you and you give me strife Why you try to hurt me? Is that all you know? Wish that I could stop you as you walk out the door and go Sit there and watch the world go by You don't need this life Whatcha waitin' for? Whatcha lookin' at? Whatcha doin' here? Why you make a face like that? While you're sitting here eras are ending Investigations are pending, now You don't understand [solo] Sit there and watch the world go by You don't need this life Whatcha waitin' for? Whatcha lookin' at? Whatcha doin' here? Why'd you make a face like that? While you're sitting here eras are ending Investigations are pending, now You don't understand You just sit there and watch the world go by You don't need this life Whatcha waitin' for? Whatcha lookin' at? Whatcha doin' here? Why'd you make a face like that? While you're sitting here eras are ending Investigations are pending, now You don't understand

You've made the bed for me to lie on I've been the shoulder for you to cry on You are the moon The keeper of night I am the sun but not quite as bright Together, we own the sky You're not afraid of any distance While I try my best to make sense of this You've kept your mind and I've kept the time You've been on the ground While I've just been high Together, we own the sky Don't promise to stay On this kind of day Then fly away Together, we own the sky What might you say if heart be open? Would you pursue if kiss were stolen A world full of money A world full of greed A world full of satin A world full of seed And what would you stand to gain here with me? A lonesome high rambler A sailor lost at sea A warrior poet Fighting to be free For king and for country For princess or queen For fading constitution that no one even reads Or some distant meaning we've been told not to need Together, we own the sky Together, we own the sky Together, we own the sky

O Angel, O Angel, O Goddess of Night Crawl on my floor and bless me with your light Dirty my memories and broken my heart Set me toward what I should tear apart Thirsty your waters come down from the sky Tell me, O one of the night, why you cry Layers of feathers and silk in your bed But who will account for the tears that you shed On your way down weigh down these branches Your fingers linger, your lashes bat down striking like matches Tell me the story of your passion O Angel, O Angel, O transient soul Tell me what I can and cannot control Drift down to me with your merciful air Of which every creature should be so aware My blood rise and fall with the pull of your tide And if you release me I surely will die Rise not thine eyes and turn not thee away But for my salvation you surely must stay On your way down weigh down these branches Your fingers linger, your lashes bat down striking like matches Tell me the story of your passion On your way down weigh down these branches The gospels and old time romances Bless us and keep us in dances O Angel, tell me your passion

We could be a whisper We could be an opera We could be the ocean We could be the standing stones We could be horizons We could be so cavalier We could run for office We could run from all our fears And when they fall on their face We'll be running wild All this time and triumph All that eddies in your hair All the magic potions that were poured into your ear Could not find the rhythm Could not find your common sense Could not be the lever that could pry me from your fence And when they fall on their face We'll be running wild Nobody's fate was sealed anymore And when they fall on their face We'll still be running wild Nobody's fate was sealed anymore

Look about, you can see where you're going But you don't know where you'll end up Just when you think that you're the pick of the litter You come to find you're just the pup Going 'round in a trance for a long time Wonder what will be today And you cannot find your way to get home Because you haven't got a way Now look at me, I'm the one with the mask on Don't you know this isn't where you're supposed to be 'cause you don't know why the world turns backwards While the rest of us are trying just to see Past and present will come together But you cannot escape our fate You always have to struggle to survive The white rabbit will always be late Know your questions will have no answers One day you can rule the world But you'll have to learn to confront your fears Or you'll only ever be a little girl Now look at me, I'm the one with the mask on Don't you know this isn't where you're supposed to be 'cause you don't know why the world turns backwards While the rest of us are trying just to see Now look at me, I'm the one with the mask on Don't you know this isn't where you're supposed to be 'cause you don't know why the world turns backwards While the rest of us are trying just to see

Maiden Name 05:30
You said your name was "Happenstance" You burned incense and prayed to the dead You said I was your legionnaire I guarded you and warmed your bed I don't expect you're still the same Your eyes were brown, your hair was blue You still went by your maiden name And I couldn't keep my hands off you But I still recall your maiden name bringing me to life A lock of hair and candy floss and a train ride that you took before Are you crawling out again? I heard that you are teaching I crossed your path in Montreal and I wasn't even reaching But I still recall your maiden name bringing me to life A cellar door, a darkened stage And a train ride that you dreamed before But I still recall your maiden name bringing me to life A cellar door, a darkened stage And a train ride that you dreamed before Yeah I still recall your maiden name ringing in the night Shadows kiss your photograph A step before I reach the light

Moments Flat 03:07
Is that what we’re for? Is it that we’re here to break it down? Conversation’s over Just like that before it began Thrown away just like that Blown away in moments flat Have you found the words I’ve written Something difficult to understand? Nothing to be heard But everything the subject of your reprimand Keep it up, but keep it still Don’t give in and lose your will Stand to fight and dress to kill Hold your own and hold my hand Dazzling lights on you Meaningless azure hue Borrowing its’ something blue Trading old for something true

about

This album project went from zero to full length over the course of a few months. Following the completion of THE LAST GOOD HIGH, I approached some half-hearted single releases that were essentially re-issues of older songs. I had written a couple new songs with Casey, but only had a sketchy idea that they might actually come to fruition.

From out on the road and overseeing overnight construction crews throughout the State of Missouri, I began writing again. What I had by July was what appeared to be a decent EP's worth of songs. I figured it was worth doing for no other reason than to keep working on music. Still, my heart and soul weren't really in a project larger than a song or two. I had the title planted in my brain, YOU ARE THE MOON, from the song "We Own The Sky" and knew that HAD to be the title.

Somewhere along the way, I passed "Weigh Down These Branches" to Kelly Kintner (check out the Kintners here on Bandcamp). He and Keri dressed it up something amazing and when I listened back to what they had done it made me smile. Ok, I started feeling some enthusiasm for this little EP I was reluctantly assembling.

Meanwhile, Nil and I entertained a vanity project of issuing some of our songs from 2020-21 on limited edition vinyl; a project as of this writing we're still working on. As Nick had not been involved in the last project due to some disagreements of which I can't even remember all of the details, I reached out to him as his performances were being revisited for the vinyl project. He got incredibly involved and actually got to work remastering the selections. Then we started exchanging songs we were working on as a matter of conversation. Then the invitation to play bass on a track here, harmonize on a song there. Next thing I knew the band was back together, ostensibly. That EP idea... yeah, that became a full length album.

The four of us were never all in the same room for this album, but I feel we still captured the urgency of BIRMINGHAM NEW STREET, and maybe even more focused. What we have created are some finely crafted songs with choruses that beg to be sung along with, we have more deeper psychedelia, an obligatory instrumental jam, and even some orchestral arrangements! This is an album that I can honestly say that if we made nothing else after, we couldn’t pick a better finale. But there are certainly more stories to tell and music to be made.
