The single version of "(Together) We Own The Sky was written and recorded entirely in a hotel room in Macon, MO. To say it's a departure from typical songs isn't exactly accurate. It's kind of "alt-country/Americana" that I wrote 15-20 years ago. It has elements of Chris Isaak, or late 80's Springsteen, I think. So, it's more of a returning to roots, of sorts. Though, it's definitely lyrically better than anything I wrote then.
For the album, there is a better bass guitar performance and added harmony vocals.
The bridge is a notable section, as on the single version I am singing with especially weak vocal capabilities. I actually had Covid at the time and was trying to prove I wasn't down and out at the time. Makes for a great story but for a lackluster vocal performance. The bridge has been reinforced here for the album.
