Riviera 03:24
(lyrics & music by Brian Kious) Let the records play Watch the curtains sway As side by side we lay In this hotel bed And now we're going down Down to Marseilles Town Yeah, we'll do the town Until the moon goes down Whoa, can't we stay We've got all day Let's go out and play Honey we're on our way And now we're holding hands Walk along the strands Walking on the sands of The Mediterranean Whoa, can't we stay We've got all day Let's go out and play Honey we're on our way And it goes like this Oh, play it honey Whoa, can't we stay We've got all day Let's go out and play Honey we're on our way Yeah And now we're on the plane HEY WHAT'S THAT I can see the Seine We've got to be insane to want to Go back to America But there we'll meet your folks We'll tell 'em Riviera jokes THEY WON'T GET IT As we carry our yokes of luggage Back home to stay Whoa, can't we stay We've got all day Let's go out and play Honey we're on our way

Smoking 04:37
(Lyrics by Brian Kious. Music by Brian Kious and Nil DeSilva) I hope you’ve been smoking, too And maybe your night’s getting darker One or two hours slip away Just around the corner to the light of day I hope you’ve been smoking, too I hope we can work it through And maybe we’ll last a little longer With that bluejean baby queen Prettiest woman we’ve ever seen I hope you’ve been smoking, too Living a lie, nobody cries Living a lie, nobody dies Living a lie, nobody cries Live in and lie, nobody dies Hang on to your bastard tunes And bow to the will of your master Fall on your knees to make me stand Never let me fall into the other’s hands I hope you’ve been smoking, too Living a lie, nobody cries Living a lie, nobody dies Living a lie, nobody cries Live in and lie, nobody dies You don’t need to tell me true At night you’re another man’s comfort With your mountains high and your valley low You like to talk about them but you never show me I hope you’ve been smoking, too I hope you’ve been smoking, too I hope you’ve been smoking, too
3.

5.
(Lyrics and music by N. Kladky) Woke up this morning Wishin' I had a ten dollar bill I said I woke up this morning Wishin' I had a ten dollar bill If I only had a tenner Wouldn't be feelin' so bad You know It's got me down You know it's really got me sad I tell you, it's got me feelin' down You know it's really got me sad You know, even if I had a fiver You know I wouldn't feel so bad I woke up this morning You know I woke up this morning Just wishin', just wishin', just wishin' I had a ten dollar bill You know even if I had a fiver....

Come On Over 03:20
(Lyrics and music by K. Hartman) Maybe someday Maybe never at all You would come on over You would give me a call Come on over Come on over I'd sure love to see you If you could find the time We'll talk in conversations Try to make it rhyme Come on over Come on over Come on over Come on over It never seems right Never seems to work out right Right Right Come on over Come on over Come on over Come on over It never seems right Never seems to work out right Right Right Play those old time records Lying on the shelf Next to your sunshine roses And your holy Tibetan bells Come on over Come on over Come on over Come on over

Fire 05:27
(Lyrics & music by Brian Kious) Written myself into a corner Three’s not a crowd when one’s a performer I have dreams of scotch-filled days And hope you’re watching from afar While I spin my yarns about a vandal’s heart Shooting the stars Coming around, never been better Under the ground and over the weather And when I go walking, hear the wise men talking At the sky The message moves me and the cadence grooves me ‘Til I’m high Never gonna quench Never gonna quench my desire Come on let me in Come on let me in Build the fire Fire Heaven and hell and fantasy faded Eyes on the clock for visions I traded And the golden sun that shines on Everybody else but me Makes me hammer down my dreams And kill the thoughts of used to be Never gonna quench Never gonna quench my desire Come on let me in Come on let me in Light the fire Fire Down on my knees to pledge my allegiance Fine where I am for all the convenience And the fools who mock me Yeah the ones who stop to scoff and swear Fill their minds with echoes Never noticing that I’m not there Never gonna quench Never gonna quench my desire Come on let me in Come on let me in Fan the fire Fire

Stereolith 07:51
(lyrics by C. Hastrich, music by B. Kious) I can hear the thoughts between your words When one teaches Two will learn I can see the colors you don't show Oh don't you know ... I can feel you with my eyes closed I can feel you with my soul
9.
(Lyrics & music by Brian Kious) When the children of the hours Burn the tallest of towers to the ground We will stand with the coven Sending love to the oven without a sound Then the page will ask the master Should we foretell disaster very soon And the old man lifts his eyes aloft Instructs the boy, “you must first learn to read the moon.” Dazzling signs will dance around In your eyes when you read the moon Dazzling signs will dance around In your eyes when you read the moon

about

This album project practically commenced the minute after BIRMINGHAM NEW STREET was released. We were on a roll and didn’t want to rest on our laurels. I feel like this album shares some of the same ambience as its predecessor, but still has a soul all its’ own. I can say that the songs (with lyrics) are more singable, in my opinion. They actually have choruses. They are also a bit longer. We would like to give special thanks to Ciroyelle, who put up with our unorthodox and disorganized work style. Also special thanks goes to Nathan Peter Illes, who saw to it that at least one of our tracks got recorded in orderly fashion.

Like the album before, the first half of THE FRENCHTOWN CONNECTION was recorded either live or semi-live, with minimal overdubs. The second half is more studio centered. In the middle, however, Nil takes his first turn ever at lead vocals, and writing lyrics.

With the lockdown coming to an end, I can honestly say we are looking forward to getting out and performing this material on stage!

ABOUT THE PHOTO COLLECTION
Frenchtown is the name of a neighborhood in the north part of the city of Saint Charles, Missouri where I grew up. It’s not actually its own town. Of the photographs included in the bonus material available after purchase (and only on Bandcamp), the Old Saint Charles Bridge can be seen from North Second Street and Clark Street. North Second was a major commercial thoroughfare through Frenchtown with furniture stores, auto parts stores, restaurants, a Catholic School, Southwestern Bell et al. The bridge was destroyed in 1998.

This photo was the starting point for the album cover. We included most of the photos that went into the making of the cover art. Included in the photos is an image of the vantage point from the A&W Restaurant that was on the corner of North Second & Bainbridge St. Not exactly part of Frenchtown is a photo of the old Drive-In on West Clay, long after it closed down. Where it sat is now part of the campus of Lindenwood University (my alma mater).

Another image is the old Saint Charles Journal building. It sat at the feet of the Old Bridge on North Main Street. I made an appearance there five days a week in my toddler days. My mother worked there as a typesetter and I was brought along to pick her up at the end of the day. The photo used was taken in late 1996 long after the paper was absorbed by St. Louis Suburban Journals. Now it’s a pizza joint. I think that’s cool?
